Unbelievable Find: LEGOs Are Taking The Lead In Improving The Texture Of Lab Grown Meat

Sci-Tech By David / July, 03, 2025

Lab grown meat is protein coming from a stem or stem like animal cells that can be cultured in a lab. Researchers from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Alabama created a device to improve meat texture using LEGOs.

The experts used LEGO bricks to build an electrospinning device that turned starch fibers into structured meat. The reason behind using Lego power function components was that the researchers had to work with water and ethanol and they did not want the device to be conductive. Thus, the plastic pieces were perfect for the task.

Scaffolds produce plastic fibers for biomedical purposes, LEGO device, on the other hand, could spin corn derived fiber, making it completely edible.

Lab grown meat is still in its developmental stage because the cultured muscle cells do not grow in a particular structure. Although plastics have proven to be of great use, scientists are still looking for better ways to improve the meat texture. As the LEGO prototype has worked, researchers will be creating larger systems.

Though, it can be said that it will surely take some for lap grown meat to be accepted by the people for daily use. And it will surely take a few years to be easily available in a supermarket. However, an important question in people’s minds would be whether the vegetarians and especially the vegans will consume meat, considering that it will be produced in the labs without actually harming the animals. One has to simply wait for this question to be answered!
