This Study Reveals Why Easter Island’s Statues Are Positioned Along the Coast
In this island full of sphinx, inanimate structures i.e. the moai statues originated long ago. As per the reports of Ars Technica, a question which was unanswered till now has finally received its answer, thanks to a team of diligent scientists who left no stones unturned to find as to why these statues of this island located close to the coast of Chile have not been unpositioned, come what may!
As per their study in the journal PLOS one, the moai statues were affixed around the major sources of fresh water in and around the island by the ancient masses of this island and this fact cannot be denied that these artifacts are located along the coast itself!
Remarkably, these statues are a blessing in disguise for the masses because beneath them, there are hidden sources of water and this can be ascertained by the activity of carrying fresh water from the underground sources to the ocean via the volcanic tubes which has created certain patches of portable water around the saline sea. And because fresh water is a limited resource on this island, these patches have certainly become the major source of survival for them.
On researching further, the researchers found that the existence of a fresh water patch was the result of these “Easter Island heads” only which were placed randomly along the coast.
The mysteries yet remain unsolved. This great island, having a population of less than 17,500 and with a complex social structure, is one of its kinds, special and unique, whichever way we look at it. Out of all the plethora of questions we have, some “whys” have been answered but some “hows” yet remain unanswered from this debatable quest.
Let us hope that the scientists are able to get the answers to these questions in our lifetime. Or we die with yet another unsolved secret of this beautiful planet.
