Carisa Barker, a 20-year-old student, is obsessed with the idea of shopping. It’s been a year and she has been visiting the clinic to donate plasma. No, it is not out of care for the society, she is doing it to get cash in return and she uses the money to satiate her need for buying stuff.

Till now, she has been able to shop for over $3000 just by donating her protein-rich plasma. The part-time nanny makes $280 a month from her donations and she has managed to disburse $3,360. She believes that it is an effortless way to get money and she recommends it to anyone who is healthy and is short of money.

She said, “I get $20 the first time and $50 the next time. It’s just a little bit of extra money that I can spend that I don’t feel I worked very hard for.”

Blood has three main components and they are RBCs, WBCs and Plasma.

If you donate blood, you won’t be getting cash in return. However, plasma is a yellow liquid in the blood that remains even after you remove white and red blood cells. This liquid is made up of water, salts, proteins, and enzymes. It is extracted from the body because it is used in medicines that help people suffering from burns, shock, trauma and other medical emergencies.

Hence, plasma collection centers across the U.S pay you for donating plasma. The student of communications claims that she is addicted to shopping and visits mall three times a week and spends about $600 a month on clothes, shoes and beauty products.

She explains her addiction by saying, “I’m a shopaholic and I would shop every day if I could. I usually go three or four times a week,” Barker said. “Clothes and shoes are my favorite things to buy and I also love beauty products.”

“On each shopping trip I only spend about $50 but that adds up to $150 a week. If I see something that I like or there’s a discount or a good deal, I’ll just buy it,” she revealed. “I feel powerful knowing that I have the money and I can buy stuff.”

She started it on a suggestion by a friend and she is now hooked to this habit. The process takes about one and a half hour at BioLife Plasma Services in Layton, Utah.

Her friends have tried to get rid of this habit but she says that she can’t do it. Her explanation for this is, “. I live at home and all of my money goes on shopping. I would save a lot of money if I stopped but as long as I have money that I can spend, I’m going to keep doing it.’

“If I was ever at a point where I didn’t have money, I would stop. Shopping is my biggest expenditure but I also spend a lot on travel.”

Her parents approve of this act and until the family is fine with it, nobody else needs to comment, right?
